Mary K. Spinner, 93, of Leavenworth passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Medicalodges of Leavenworth. She was born on October 16, 1925 in Leavenworth to Edward J. and Katherine (Herklotz) Monahan. She was one of sixteen children born of the Monahan family, 6 brothers and 9 sisters. She met Dallas W. Spinner and on January 19, 1979 they were married in Leavenworth KS. Dallas preceded her in death on March 28, 1989. They had one child from this union, Judy A. Spinner.
Mary loved to sew and enjoyed the flowers she grew in her yard. Mary worked for several years at the Quality Hill Garment factory in Kansas City MO. She also worked at Wal-mart, as well as other businesses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Dallas and 11 siblings. She is survived by her daughter Judy and her husband Orbie of Kansas City KS, one brother, and three sisters, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 commencing at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Belden Larkin funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 pm with Deacon Robert Zbylut, officiating at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Robert A. Sondergaard, 76, of Leavenworth passed away on April 7, 2019 at St. Luke’s Cushing Hospital.
Robert was a teacher, football coach, high school principal and athletic director in various states. He was a football coach and teacher at Leavenworth Senior High School from 1994-2007. He was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame at Yankton, South Dakota in 2012.
Robert is survived by his wife, Karen of 48 years. Three sons, Bobby (Jessica) Sondergaard of Garden City, KS, Michael Sondergaard of Bull Head City, AZ and Dennis (Sophie) Sondergaard of Fircrest, WA. Eight grandchildren. Brother Dennis Sondergaard of Red Wing, MN and sisters Sandra Sondergaard and Darlene (Jim) Block, Westbrook MN, and sister in law, Janice Sondergaard.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Sondergaard and his parents, Hans and Elizabeth (Bitler) Sondergaard.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at the funeral home. A Memorial service will follow at 1:30 pm with Pastor Damian Efta, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the Church of the Open Door building fund.
Lula F. Dillon, 81, of Lansing passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Medicalodges of Leavenworth.
Lula was born on December 24, 1937 in Leavenworth to Roy E. and Velma I. (Derry) Sparks. She enjoyed reading, sewing. Volunteered at the Leavenworth Public Library, in the Kansas room assisting customers with their genealogy issues. She also loved to volunteer at the Council of Aging, assisting where needed. Lula was married in 1960 to William Dillon in Miami OK. From this union they had two children, William Dillon Jr. and Penloop (Penny) Dillon. Lula worked for a number of years at Hallmark Cards as a machine operator, where she retired in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse William and daughter Penny. She is survived by her son, William (Denise) Dillon Jr, of Lansing KS, two grandchildren, Allison (Jared) Rogers and William Ryan Dillon, both of Manhattan KS. Sister, Violet M. St. Clair, Breckenridge MO, and three brothers, Russell Sparks, Cameron MO, Roy E. Sparks Jr, Leavenworth KS, and David I. (Linda) Sparks, Leavenworth KS. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2019 at the funeral home at 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel with Pastor Cape Rust, officiating. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Memorials in her name may be directed to Leavenworth Public library or the Council on Aging.
Franklin D. Flint, 80, of Leavenworth Kansas passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his residence. He was born on January 4, 1939 to Gerome and Mabel (Gilbert) Flint in Lawrence Kansas.
Franklin worked as a construction / concrete worker and after thirty plus years he decided to retire in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, camping and a good conversation about life and family came first. He was a hard working family man. He loved to scratch his lottery tickets and enjoyed repairing things around his house.
Franklin met Bessie Brooks in 1983 and they were married on February 18, 1992 in Leavenworth Kansas. Together they raised eight children, Jennifer Farley, Jason Farley, April Farley, Deborah Day, Bruce Flint, Peggy Flint, Regina Wolfe and Renee Wolfe.
Franklin is survived by his spouse, Bessie, Jennifer Farley, daughter, Deborah Day, daughter, Jason Farley, son and April Farley, daughter, Regina Mitchell, daughter and Renee Wolfe, daughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Bruce Flint and daughter, Peggy Sharp.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 6:00 pm, with Pastor Cape Rust, officiating at the funeral home.
Eric Davis Felzke, 38, of Easton, Kan., passed away, Monday, April 29, 2019, at his residence. Eric was born June 11, 1980, to Harry W. and Anne J. (Herken) Felzke in Winchester Kan.
Eric attended Easton Elementary Schools, graduating from Pleasant Ridge High School in 1998 before attending college at Kansas State University. Eric enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing and art as well as spending time with his nephews and niece. He will always be remembered for his never ending sense of humor.
He is survived by his parents, his sister Erin (Jordan Toot) Felzke, nephews and niece; Bennett, Caleb and Aubrey, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Herman and Mary Ellen Felzke; maternal grandparents Kenneth “Dutch” and Vernetta Herken; an uncle, Chris Herken and his beloved dog, Deener.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Belden-Larkin Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the rosary prayed at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Easton, Kan., with Father James Shaughnessy as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed in his name to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or the Easton Youth Athletics (EYA).
