Jane Elizabeth Carney

Jane E. Carney walked from her quaint country home through the gates of Heaven on May 22, 2019. Alone in her last moments, she is now surrounded by a circle of family and beloved friends. Jane was born just seven minutes behind her twin Judy to Frank and Elizabeth (Rodenhaus) Carney on July 20, 1939 at the old Saint John Hospital located at 7th and Kiowa.  

Jane attended the Old Cathedral grade school and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1957. Jane entered the US Navy in 1963 along with her twin Judy. She served honorably and was discharged in 1966 with a background in Dental Hygiene. Jane spent most of her life in California where she retired from the US Postal Service. She and Judy owned and operated a small restaurant (Country Inn) in Norco California. Jane moved back to Kansas to live a few years with her sister Judy until her death in 2010. Jane’s friend Lilian Castro lived with her until her untimely death.


Jane is survived by her brother Michael (Mike) and his wife Gloria, cousins Robert Bowen and Sue (Lonergan) Aurrchio.  Extended family members include numerous Nephews and Nieces as well as their children and grandchildren.  She is also survived by her friend Lil and her son Johnny.  Jane was preceded by her parents, sisters Judy and Mary Myles and brother Neil. 


A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 20th at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Lansing KS.  Burial will be immediately after at Mt. Calvary cemetery with military honors.  Jane’s remains will be placed at the foot of her father’s grave.  A light lunch will be provided immediately following her inurnment at St. Francis Catholic Church.   As July 20th would have been her 80th birthday, a birthday celebration will be held at Ten Penny Restaurant at approximately 1:00 pm.   In lieu of flowers Jane requested contributions in her name be directed to the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), 728 Cherokee St., Leavenworth, KS.
